The entire quilt is finished with a framed turquoise border featuring gentle swirling edge-to-edge quilting, perfectly echoing the movement of the bargello waves.

The History Behind the Bargello Technique

While bargello looks intricate and complex, its roots trace back centuries far beyond the modern quilting world.

The technique originated in 17th-century Europe, initially developed as a style of needlepoint used for upholstery and decorative cushions. The name "Bargello" comes from the Bargello Palace in Florence, Italy, where a set of chairs featuring these dramatic, flame-like zigzag patterns was discovered.

Traditional bargello relied on straight vertical stitches worked in rhythmic offset steps to create the illusion of flowing, curved waves or flickering flames. Quilters eventually adapted this needlepoint technique by strip-piecing fabric bands, sewing them together, cutting them into vertical units of varying widths, and reassembling them with precise shifts. The result is a striking optical illusion—straight geometric blocks pieced together to form seamless, rolling curves.

Made for Comfort & Cozy Spaces

Generously sized at 60 x 80 inches, this throw quilt is as functional as it is visually captivating. Whether draped over the back of a sofa, laid across the foot of a bed, or wrapped around your shoulders on a chilly evening, its breathable cotton construction offers the perfect year-round warmth.

Every seam was pieced with precision to ensure those sweeping Bargello lines pop, giving a nod to history while bringing a fresh, modern splash of color to the home.
